Environmental fabrics
Here at Katie Kerr we try to look after our fashion footprint through purchasing considerately. We actively search for fabrics with ethical sustainable qualities such as recycled polyester, recycled nylon from brands such as Elemente Clemente. We also have a huge range of clothing in natural fabrics such as 100% linen, hemp, bamboo and organic cotton.
Some of our brands such as Part Two have also joined the BCI cotton (Better Cotton Initiative). BCI is a global organisation that works for more sustainable cotton production in the world. Among other things, cotton farmers are trained to use a minimum of pesticides and less water. Other brands such as Sahara have joined the 'I LOVE LINEN' campaign for the second year. Linen has been a core fabric of Sahara’s designs for over a decade, it’s no surprise that its sustainable and innovative properties are becoming wider-known. The wonders of this fabric, cultivated from pure flax seed, are vast – not only is it easy to wear and effortlessly elegant, its ethical properties are like no other with 80% of flax fibre being harvested in Europe, flax seed only requires rainwater to grow has absolutely no GMOs.
One fabric that has really caught our eye is Tencel. Tencel helps to maintain the environmental balance by being integrated into nature´s cycle. The fibres originate from the renewable raw material wood, created by photosynthesis. The certified bio-based fibres are manufactured using an environmentally responsible production process. The fibres are certified as compostable and biodegradable, and thus can fully revert back to nature. On top of that it feels soft, breathable, light and comfortable.
Some of our big brands like Part Two, Nice things and Thought are using Tencel more often, look out for the green tag in our shops to show which are Tencel.
